Journalist, editor and head writer at the Urban Solutions Journal

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re getting ready for a well-deserved year-end break now. Before you sign off, mark this date in your calendars for next year: On Friday, January 30th, I’ll host the next Urban Solutions Journalism Academy. It will take about two hours and I’ll share details on how to sign up in the new year. If you have any preferences on time, feel free to leave a comment, and for any questions, contact me on laura@parcitypatory.org.

It’s been an exciting year for me and the Urban Solutions Journal – starting out on Substack, building a community and hosting the first Urban Solutions Journalism Academy. I also got certified as a Solutions Journalism Trainer and started publishing regular stories for Bluedot Magazine – here is my latest one on bike buses.

And on top of that, I work as a communications consultant for a few different projects, including for the German Development Agency GIZ, and for the Futurium in Berlin, which teaches future literacy skills to children. Both of these have amazing project results that help restore faith in the work happening all over the world towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

I have loved experimenting on Substack, writing about what works in cities and discovering new solutions on the way. Here are some of my favourite articles:

I’m always on the lookout for more guest writers, so if you’d like to contribute, have a look here to learn how to best pitch me your story idea:

I wish you a very restful end of the year – and hope that you’ll find some inspiration along the way, be it for better cities or other goals of yours.

Thank you for following along! All the best, and see you next year.
Laura.

We investigate the link between urban design and feelings of vulnerability and learn how cities plan street capital that makes everyone comfortable at any time of day.

Today, I thought I’d show you how my article for Bluedot magazine, “Beavers are back in London”, came to be. I often get questions about the process – let me know if this is helpful!
