Today, another part of the series on street art.
Tunisian street artist eL Seed is transforming many cities with his beautiful murals. Watch his TED talk here:
He was kind enough to answer a few quick questions for me:
1) What does street art mean to you?
It is a tool to democratise art, to bring people to it. Also it is a means to bring people, cultures and generations together.
2) What kind of message does your street art spread?
It depends of the place I am painting. I alway write messages that are relevant to place I am painting but they have this universal dimension, so anyone around the world can relate to it.
3) Do you create street art in a participatory process and/or involve the community?
Yes, I always try to involve in a certain way the community in the process so they can feel connected to the art piece.
4) Do you think that street art can help improve living conditions in neighbourhoods?
It would be naive to say that it can improve living conditions in certain neighborhood. It brings hope, it brings light, it can change perception.
5) What obstacles do you encounter when creating your street art?
The obstacles are mainly technique. Most of the time, people are welcoming my artwork as they are interested with the thought behind it. Involving them in the process instills this pride and makes everything goes smooth.
Thank you, eL Seed!
