Dear readers,

I am pleased to invite you to the first Urban Solutions Journalism Academy on September 26h. This will be a free pilot session, in exchange for your feedback, before I begin running it regularly as part of the paid Substack community.

What, when, and where?

This interactive two-hour online workshop on September 26th from 4pm to 6pm UK time will introduce the basics of solutions journalism with a focus on urban issues. We will cover:

  • How to identify constructive stories about cities
  • How to pitch these stories to editors
  • How to structure and write them
  • How to reach an audience

Register for the Academy and I will send you details before the session.

Why now?

Cities are facing complex challenges – from climate adaptation to social inequality – but there is a growing need for reporting that highlights effective responses. Solutions journalism offers a way to do this without losing rigour or critical perspective.

Why me?

In September, I will complete trainer certification with the Solutions Journalism Network. I have already completed their basic training, taken part as both mentee and mentor, and published a number of solutions-focused stories on urban issues.

Who is it for?

This session is open to anyone with an interest in cities and urban development, whether or not you work in the field. It will provide a foundation for telling stories about urban solutions and getting them published.

Places are limited, so please register early if you would like to take part. I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
